“My return from combat was very difficult,” said Lloyd Michael Austin. “It is my deepest desire to help other veterans overcome their struggles as they return to civilian life.” Austin—as he goes by—is a minister at Faith Ministries and actively supports veterans in crisis. He is currently training to be a Peer Support leader and is committed to serving the veteran community in any way that he can.

“I share a lot of the same values with the rest of the Veterans Recovery Resources team, so it is a good fit for me. I am committed to helping provide relief to our local vets. There are a lot who need help,” said Austin.

“Programs like Veterans Recovery Resources are critical if we are going to serve our veterans well,” said Joseph Currier, a clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in Clinical/Counseling Psychology at the University of South Alabama. “Combining a deep understanding of military culture along with evidence-based practices will be a distinctive priority of Veterans Recovery Resources. We are glad to have Austin on board as veteran who understands the culture and what other veterans are going through.”

Veterans Recovery Resources has launched its $1.5 million capital campaign geared towards individuals wishing to support the cause, as well as local community foundations and businesses.

Austin graduated from Williamson High School and lives in Mobile, AL. His wife of 28 years, Charlyn, served 22 years in the U.S. Army as a medic, which is where the pair met. Together they have two children and two grandchildren.
